A blunt-tipped cannula, designed to find and follow the muscle within its enveloping fascia, was introduced through an access port created through the skin using an awl. One to 2 mL of blue gel was injected per muscle from a 3-mL syringe. Immediately after injection, the muscle was dissected to determine placement of the blue gel.

RESULTS

Accurately targeting the muscles of facial expression for autologous fat grafting using a percutaneous approach is feasible.

CONCLUSION

With practice, the muscles of facial expression can be reliably cannulated percutaneously, permitting restoration of volumetric losses.

Methods and Findings: We conducted a prospective study of 185 patients with suspected coronary disease and without history of clinical myocardial infarction who were scheduled for invasive coronary angiography. Q-wave UMI was determined by electrocardiography (Minnesota Code). Non-Q-wave UMI was identified by DE-CMR in the absence of electrocardiographic Q-waves. non-Q-wave UMI was 27% (50/185), compared with 8% (15/185) for Q-wave UMI. Over 2.2 y (interquartile range 1.8-2.7), 16 deaths occurred: 13 in non-Q-wave UMI patients (26%), one in Q-wave UMI (7%), and two in patients without MI (2%). Multivariable analysis including New York Heart Association class and LVEF demonstrated that non-Q-wave UMI was an independent predictor of all-cause mortality (hazard ratio [HR] 11.4, 95% confidence interval [CI] 2.5-51.1) and cardiac mortality (HR 17.4, 95% CI 2.2-137.4).

Conclusions: In patients with suspected coronary disease, the prevalence of non-Q-wave UMI is more than 3-fold higher than Q-wave UMI. The presence of non-Q-wave UMI predicts subsequent mortality, and is incremental to LVEF.

“Objective: Early studies on blood donors point to a seroprevalence of approximately 0.25% for hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection in Iran. However, the true click here prevalence in the general population is unknown. The objective of this study

Methods: We randomly selected 6583 subjects from three provinces in Iran for inclusion in the study. Subjects were aged between 18 and 65 years. Anti-hepatitis C antibody was tested by a third-generation ELISA test. A recombinant immunoblot assay (RIBA) test was used to confirm the results. Risk factors were recorded and a multivariate analysis was performed.

Results: A total of 5684 Torin 2 mouse plasma samples were tested. After confirmatory tests, we found 50 cases of HCV. The overall weighted prevalence of anti-HCV was 0.5%. The rate was significantly higher in men (1.0%) than in women (0.1%). In multivariate analysis, male sex, history of intravenous drug abuse, and imprisonment were significantly associated with anti-HCV.

Conclusions: We found the prevalence of HCV infection in Iran to

Methods: A consecutive series of thirty-eight patients with an unstable thoracolumbar burst fracture with or without neurologic deficit were managed with transpedicular, balloon-assisted

fracture reduction, calcium phosphate bone cement reconstruction, and short-segment spinal instrumentation from 2002 to 2005. Twenty-eight of the thirty-eight patients were followed for a minimum of two years. Demographic data, neurologic function, segmental kyphosis, the fracture severity score, canal compromise, the Short Form-36 score, the Oswestry Disability Index score, and treatment-related complications click here were evaluated prospectively.

Oswestry Disability Index and visual analogue scales scores were obtained to evaluate clinical and functional outcomes.

Results. Initial graft volumes had decreased by 8% at 6 months and by 26.3% between 6 and 12 months after surgery (P = 0.0025, P = 0.0001, respectively). Mean group bone graft volume losses at 5 years after surgery were not significantly different between the posterolateral fusion and posterior lumbar

interbody fusion groups or the floating fusion and fixed fusion groups (P = 0.722, P = 0.076, respectively). No statistical difference in visual analogue scales and Oswestry Disability Index score decreases were observed between the groups. Mean graft bone volume loss during 5 years increased with initial graft volume (r = 0.525, P = 0.003). However, ratios of volume loss over 5 years versus initial graft volume decreased with initial graft volume (r = -0.459, P = 0.011).

Conclusion. One-third of initial bone grafts were found to be resorbed over 5 years and the majority of this resorption was found to occur between 6 months and 1 year after instrumented lumbar/lumbosacral fusion. Furthermore, bone graft volumetric changes were not affected by fusion methods or ranges of fusion, and did not affect clinical or functional outcomes. Although bone graft volume loss was found to increase with initial graft volume, larger bone grafts were found to result in a larger fusion mass.
